Now that we've all calmed down from the exciting news that Brett Favre will put off retirement ... again and return for a 17th season, there's the little issue of when (or if) the 37-year-old quarterback will have ankle surgery. It was originally scheduled for shortly after the Packers regular season ended December 31 but was postponed indefinitely.
"He might [still have ankle surgery]," [GM Ted] Thompson said. "I don't think anything's scheduled, but it's something that, like [head coach] Mike (McCarthy) explained earlier in the year, it's something that he's played with. But I think it's something that he might do. But if he does, I'm sure you'll know about it."
I'm not a doctor, but this seems kind of important. Especially if Favre thought it was serious enough to address immediately after the season.

The good news -- well, for Favre, anyway -- is that whatever the state of his ankle, he probably won't participate in quarterback school and possibly even minicamp. In addition to giving Favre more time to prepare for the regular season, it will also allow backup Aaron Rodgers a chance to earn his paycheck since, in all likelihood, he won't sniff the field once the actual games start.
