In light of recent comments by Marshall Faulk, coupled with recent news about the Rams interest in offering Stephen Davis another year tender - it's hard not to sit back and dream a bit about an unprecedented legendary scenario that could actually come to pass this year in St. Louis.
Picture if you will ...
"Marc Bulger leans in to take the snap - he rolls out to the right in an option and pitches the ball to Stephen Davis - he's gonna throw it - he's got Marshall Faulk on an out pattern, he laterals back to Jackson who's got blockers - and down the sideline he goes and no one even wants to think about getting in front of that load of dreadlocks. One man to beat, and Jackson puts a stiff-arm to the chest of the defender - and no ones stopping to count the bodies baby - ring up six for the good guys."
Ahhh, I have to calm down. Okay I'm better now.
As much of a fantasy as that play is, the pieces of that puzzle could very well fall into place this year and the Rams could have the most talented and tantalizing backfield in NFL history.
Steven Jackson - The most exciting young all-purpose back to come along in years.
Stephen Davis - NFL rushing leader and three time Pro-Bowler with nearly 9,000 rushing yards and counting.
Marshall Faulk - MVP, future Hall of Famer, plus dozens more accolades that would take too much room to fit in this small blog.
Just the mentoring and leadership of having Faulk back on the Rams sidelines would be so huge to the many youngsters on the squad - you can't buy that kind of motivation at any price.
Then throw in the small detail of another pair of future Hall of Fame receivers in Isaac Bruce, and Torry Holt, and the anticipation starts to lead one's head into the clouds.
A few defensive pieces to boot and next year's team could really be one for the picture books.
Here's to next year baby.
GO RAMS!!

I can appreciate your enthusiasm for Marshall's possible return, but before proclaiming the best in history, let's actually take a look at the history. Some other good tandems/trios from the past:
40's Cardinals: Pat Harder, Elmer Angsman, Charley Trippi.
50's 49ers: John Henry Johnson, Hugh McElhenny, Joe Perry
60's Packers: Paul Hornung, Jim Taylor
70's Steelers: Franco Harris, Rocky Bleier
70's Dolphins: Larry Csonka, Mercury Morris
80's Cowboys: Tony Dorsett, Herschel Walker
80's Raiders: Bo Jackson, Marcus Allen
90's Cowboys: Emmitt Smith, Daryl Johnston
00's Ravens: Jamal Lewis, Priest Holmes
00's Chiefs: Priest Holmes, Larry Johnson (the one year they were healthy)
Still, it sure would be nice seeing #28 running around the field again.

Isaac Bruce and Tori Holt are not future Hall of Fame receivers...what a joke. They have a good backfield but nowhere close to best ever.

Holt and Bruce are not Hall of Famers. Their backfield is good but I would not say great.

Torry Holt and Ike are not future HOFers? Are YOU high? Bruce has an above average chance, there is a good probability that he will get in, while if Holt continues playing anything resembling the way he has the beginning of his career, he is a lock.

Wow, not future HOFer's? That's probably the easiest call there is today. Bruce is a lock. Torry has some work to do, but all he has to do really is to stay healthy and do what he does. He can realistically just be average for the rest of his career and will probably still get in.
But Keep on smokin' DR

bruce is 7th in both career catches and receiving yards, and (surprise) is younger than marvin harrison, so let's not call him done yet. bruce is a hall of famer who is still adding to his resume. holt is not a HOF yet, but give him a few years. his numbers are pretty comparable to randy moss' (except tds), in one less season.
now, if you could just find a way to add jerome bettis to that backfield.

HOF discussions aside, how does adding two, washed up, broke down RBs make it the greatest backfield ever? Davis was a joke last year, and as great as Faulk was, it's over.
Turner and LT gets my vote. LJ and Priest was even better.

A joke Ben? Steven Jackson will be the first to tell you that Stephen Davis is a big part of his being able to have his breakout year. His veteran mentorship was an invaluable tool which helped Jackson hone his style. A Joke? Davis ran like a bull last year, albeit in a limited capacity.
Sorry your wrong this time Mr. McKnight.

For all those haters out there saying that Torry Holt and Issac Bruce are not future hof's is absurd. Torry holt is the fastest player to 10,000 yards, over randy, marvin, to, and even rice. When both are healthy they lead the legue in total receiving yards among top 2 wr's on a team. And Torry is the first and only player in NFL history to amass 1,300 yards for 6 straight seasons! And Issac Bruce has HOF stats as well. Not to mention they only have less then 1,000 receiving yards 1 season each!!! Not to mention they do have a super bowl ring which everyone I listed except rice doesn't have. They are exciting to watch and can kill any safety man to man or in double coverage as anyone out there. Watch them one day and you will see why their so good. So stop hating and start congratulating.

Look Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce will be in the HOF. Torry Holt has some of the best hands in the nfl and can catch about anything and Bruce has had a tremendous career. And unlike some wide recievers in the nfl cough* T.O. they dont cause contreversy or kill their coaches. And with a QB like bulger there stats will keep growin. but with the play this guy came up with ya it would never work because it would take too much tyme but it would b awesome to watch.
