Larry Brown -- the guy who provides sports updates during Ben Maller's Friday night show, not this poor sap -- has posted some photos of Bears defensive tackle Tank Johnson palling around with five-o.
Brown takes issue with Johnson being allowed to leave the state as he awaits trial on gun possession charges. Brown writes on his blog:
For a guy with a rap sheet longer than Mike McKenzie's hair, you have to wonder how [Johnson's] allowed to play in the game... [H]ow the heck was he let off? Why is he allowed to go to Miami on vacation while awaiting trial for some serious offenses?Let's just say Brown doesn't think Tank was treated "like any other defendant" ... and he has the photos to support his point.
... According to [Assistant State's Attorney Rick] Cenar, Tank is allowed to go play because the trip is "work-related"... Cenar noted [that] 'Quite frankly we treated the defendant Mr. Johnson like any other defendant.'

Well to me thats pretty amazing, so if i was a football player going to jail, but my team was on it's way to the super bowl, i would be able to go because it's work related. Not that the 49ners are going anytime soon, but I know for a fact that most of the 49ners have been in bay area clubs smoking weed and carrying guns and the police seems to pay them no attettion. so what does that tell you make it to the nfl and then you can do anything that you want because you make more money and money talk in this croupt world money talks and drugs well they get you high. lol sticks out
tank has a right to play because he is only accused not yet found guilty and he has paid his bail.

Let the guy play. So he has a gun charge. It could be much worse. I know millions of Americans own guns. Charges may not even be true. He worked hard for his job, I say let him play. Steelers Rule.

I don't want to minimize the alleged crimes committed by Tank, but they are all misdemeanors. If anything, his bail and restrictions have been harsher because he is an athlete.
Everyone is getting bent out of shape about the gun charges, but why doesnt anyone know that illinois is only 1 of 3 states to require a gun card, or the fact that the guns were registered in AZ where tank had former residence?

Here is why Tank was allowed to go...he is not a flight risk. They have no worries that he will show back up for his court date, if he doesn't then he will no longer be playing in the NFL...and i don't think he is about to give that up.
