Not that it's huge news, and it's certainly not surprising news, but Jeff Garcia picked an odd place to declare to the world that he was definitely going to test the waters of free agency. It was Jay Leno who got the scoop last night on The Tonight Show.I guess it makes some sense. Leno does remind me a lot of ESPN's John Clayton. They're equally funny, it's just that John Clayton seems to know a little more about football.
It's nothing against Jeff Garcia, as I've always kind of liked the guy, but ... could Leno really not find anyone else? What, was Charlie Batch not available? Did Andrew Walter cancel? Presumably, The Tonight Show is still some kind of a big deal in the entertainment industry. Shouldn't Leno have a guest on the show that's a little bit more relevant to what's happening in the NFL right now? Maybe a Colt, perhaps a Bear... at least a Patriot or a Saint.
But Jeff Garcia? Here's what's going to happen with him: some bad team is going to give him a decent-sized contract, and suddenly, Jeff Garcia will revert to the Lions version of Jeff Garcia, or the Browns version of Jeff Garcia, and that will be it for the heroic career of Jeff Garcia.

That does seem weird that Jeff Garcia would be on Leno. I wonder how far ahead do they have to schedule people? Maybe they did it on the off-chance the Eagles made it to the Super Bowl (and you know what a busy schedule Garcia has- need to lock him up early!).

Hey mjd I think having Jeff Garcia on was a good choice, he helped brung a team back the q-back went out. He is an outstanding backup, they went on to beat all the teams in their division and to go 2 games into the playoffs.Garcia plays with heart and he gives it his all, i hope he stays an Eagle, but if theres an opportunity for him he should take it. Wherever he ends up i'll be waiting for you retraction next year,GO EAGLES! and to talk about his time with the Lions and the Browns, one question??? don't the rest of the team need to play as well, does the q-back make the team, or does team make the q-back, put Brady on the Lions today and see how many games they win.

Jeff Garcia should be happy to play as a backup to Donovan McNabb. If he plays for a bad team he will stink as well and wish he had stayed in Philadelphia.

jeff garcia played well for the browns, had some real nice moments. it's not his fault that he fell into the swirling poo-storm that was the butch davis era.
and his stint with the lions should be taken at face value...they are the lions. one of the few organizations browns fans can truly look down on and laugh. and just for comedy's sake...matt millen.

I hope Garcia stays put but if he's going to test the waters, hey, he showcased himself at the right time and deserves the monetary benefit. My thought is, I hope the Eagles don't make the same mistake they made with Chris Carter, We all know how he did in Minnesota. We may have to tolerate another season with an injury prone Quarterback who still can't throw the deep-out and has trouble with the touch pass and is only one more "ding" from hanging them up but we'll see??? Garcia jump-started the team and the fan involvement and he deserves at least a chance to see how many $$$$ he's worth, afterall, how many times have the Eagles kept on has-beens just to fill a roster spot? The current QB is a reasonable example! It's become a "money game" and that is the real N.F.L.!!!

Apparently, you have just about never seen the Tonight show yet feel you can still report on it. If you had, you might find out that Kevin Eubanks, Jays good friend and residant band leader/black guy, is a huge fan of the eagles, and consequently, Jeff Garcia. Now here is the point of embaressment, your reporting on that specific show. Did you not notice Jeff's entrance, as he handed the jersey to Kevin, and how kevins hat for the past year has been an eagles hat? Oh, and why not someone from the Bears or the Colts? Because who from the Bears is a big eonough star, and who else besides Peyton, who is currently watching film, hoping to find out how to avoid getting his white jersey dirty while being sacked.
E A G L E S! Eagles!!!

How quickly we all forget!! For those of you who are SO ready to throw Donovan under the bus, please remember this guy was on his way to an MVP season and ANOTHER Pro Bowl appearance before his injury. Jeff Garcia did a magnificent job as McNabb's backup/replacement. But, keep in mind that the Eagles are one of the top 3 teams, in terms of wins/losses since 2000 with McNabb as the starter. 7 seasons is WAY too long to be considered a fluke or lucky. I truly wish Donovan fully recovers from his injury and comes back as good, if not BETTER than ever. At 37, Garcia is at the extreme "back end" of his career, and the only teams interested in him, and willing to "blow" big money on him are losers that already have NO QB and are hoping for a miracle!! Either way, I wish him well, and hope he comes back to the Eagles. If not, I hope Garcia does not make a decision he will forever regret. Good Luck, Jeff and Thank you!! GO EAGLES & Donovan in 2007!!

I think that Garcia Should go to the Texans, Not that I am a fan of them but can he be as bad as David Carr? I have heard rumors of them getting rid of Carr, I think that would be a good pick up if they can get a line.Or Maybe even Miami. Who Knows, He is a good QB, just hasnt had a line or great backs or recievers, I think if he had them he would be a pro bowl contender.

As a recipient of having ACL surgery myself, Donovans' mobility will be effected and given that fact his ability to "tuck the ball in" and just run is going to be an issue that the coaching staff has to consider when they go to this years draft. Personnally, I would like to see them get a "MULE" type running back to take some heat off of Westbrooke and maybe convert those short yardage situations. Donovan is, with this injury, another reason to, maybe draft an interior lineman to protect him in the pocket because he will be very lucky if he completes the season with only one "good wheel".

Trey- The problem with the Texans isn't Carr. Carr is damn good, is the rest of the team that sucks, from the front office to the coaches to the offensive line. They all suck, but Carr is damn good. If his offensive line were doing their job, he wouldn't lead the league in sacks and would have enough time to actually throw the ball. And they passed on Bush. WTF? How can an organization be so stupid?!
If they get rid of Carr, and/or, Carr has to retire because he's taken too many hits, well, that's just sad and pathetic! The Texans organization should be ashamed of themselves for what they've done to him!

It is funny how people mention that we are so soon to forget about McNabb's early season success. We forget about Garcia being the new Steve Young in San Fransico who was the only quarterback to keep T.O. in check? What you people tend to forget is that all quarterbacks in the NFL are talented, in the wrong system or just a bad system with bad receivers and no running game the greatest quarterback will not win. Do I even need to say Dan Marino? If you put a marginal quarterback in a good system they will win some games such as Jim Kelly and McNabb. After considering all of this the best quarterback we are not talking about is Joey Harrington. He will be the starter in Miami, Culpepper will get traded and Miami will draft a young receiver with good speed and their offense will look similar to that of the Rams only with a better defense. If you are looking for more examples of my theory remember Drew Brees at Purdue? Remember the Rose Bowl? Fastforward to San Diego pre- L.T. and the beginning of a career with Antonio Gates. They sucked, not because of Brees but the team was bad now you put a marginal quarterback (Phillip Rivers) in there who can hand the ball off to L.T. and through a 15 year pass to Gates and he is a pro-bowler. You are all putting too much stock into wins and losses. Give me T.O. and Jerry Rice at any point in their careers and you will find success at quarterback.

Jeff came in and did a good job. I hope he finds success wherever he lands, but I, as an Eagle fan, hope he stays. Donovan can be injured again at any time. Who's to say DMac can even start the first reg season game of '07 at this point?

Jeff Garcia will do what he needs to do to Promote himself. Let Jeff do his thing and all will be okay. Maybe if you knew his life and his family and his character, I belive there is no better person to let the world know the type of individuals who represent the NFL an the Bay Area.

Jeff Garcia is a tremendous player. He has been my favorite ever since he was in the Candian League. You have to give the man some credit. He can step up in the pocket or go outside the pocket to make a great play. He is a team player that can get the job done. When he played for other teams he wasn't terrible, the teams he was one just weren't right for him. He is a west coast scrambling QB. Jeff Garcia is one of only six quarterbacks in NFL history that have achieved two consecutive (back-to-back) 30-touchdown passing seasons at least one time in their careers. The others are Steve Bartkowski, Brett Favre, Dan Fouts, Dan Marino, and Y.A. Tittle. My motto is once a great player always a great player. He will beat everyones ass when he is plays with the Bucs. GO JEFF!
