Here is an interesting but unconfirmed tidbit that's beginning to spread this morning. According to a local New York radio station, Jeremy Shockey approached Lito Sheppard following the Giants wildcard loss to the Eagles and expressed his desire to leave New York for Philadelphia. The Star Ledger also reported a similar conversation took place between Shockey and Sheldon Brown.I can not for a second believe that is accurate at all but it has already hit several Giants forums and "panic" has followed. If this report turns out to true the Giants will have an additional problem on their hands going into the off-season. However, I think this is just another media idiot trying to stir up trouble for the Giants.
Throughout his career Shockey has been wild and outspoken but never once indicated he'd want to be anywhere other than New York. I find it hard to believe Shockey would want to "give up" on the Giants [or anything for that matter] and go elsewhere. I was reassured of this thought when Shockey spoke out against these reports [in the Ledger report] and reminded us all of his desire to play in New York and to beat Dallas and Philadelphia.

The only reason any of this resonates at all is because no decision has been made on Coughlin or the new GM yet. The best lies and rumors are those that make sense to most, and right now most Giants fans feel most Giants players have had enough of Tom, both personally and professionally. Some believe Tiki had enough of him before they started losing regularly, so the next rumor will be that Strahan is retiring too if Tom isn't fired. I think Tom will stay for another year, when the Giants coaching options are more favorable. What he must do is realize that different situations call for different management approaches and therefore styles. Every professional manager knows that, and football is not some unique exception. One size does not fit all. Tom needed to be the disciplinarian hard ass to reverse the Fassell country club atmosphere -- mission accomplished. Tom now needs to establish a culture of strength, and power, and... well... respected professional football within the Giants team. Tom needs to look at the Ravens and Partiots as benchmarks... nobody looks forward to a leisurely Sunday afternoon taking the field against those guys. The same Tom-style won't make that happen... so be a manager and pick up a style that's appropriate for the 2007 Giants... or, go away.

I wouldn't be surprised if Shockey is looking for a change. With Coughlin staying and Tiki leaving, there really isn't much hope for the Giants. The Giants need to lose Coughlin, and they might (maybe) need to lose Shockey as well. Shockey was a total bust under Fassel. He became a better player under Coughlin. Still, the Giants need to gut the team and regroup. They need to get rid of Coughlin and replace him with a coach that the players respect. They also need to get rid of players like Shockey who mouth off too much and get hurt too often. They need to develop a defensive scheme that actually stops other teams from scoring points, and they need to get rid of Eli Manning simply because he stinks. As a NY football fan, all I can say for the 2007-08 season is J-E-T-S, JETS! JETS! JETS! JETS!

By them keeping Coughlin, I can see Shockley wanting to leave the Giants. I can see many more of the Giants "wanting" to leave, but can't. But I can see many of the Giant fans leaving for Jet Country!

Fletch is a idiot. The last two years the Giants have had a run of bad injuries on defense and offense. when the line give Eli time he completes passes. That is when they are not dropped. Eli doe not make any more dumb plays than an other 2.5 year QB. I do not like Shockey, he is too mouthy on and off the field. In one game I saw him going off on the sideline then he came in a dropped a first down catch that was right in his hands. Seems to me these mouthy types always drop the ball, right T. O. If the Giants can stay healthy they wil be a top team. Coughlin is ging to be there and these guys are supposed to be professionals. Shut up and play hard.

The Birds have won the NFC East so often lately, it must be an attractive idea for Shockey. What competitor with his passion wouldn't want to be a winner? He knows that the Birds are a position or two away from winning multiple Superbowls in the coming years - he would fill one of those gaps. The G-men are years away from the big game with much rebuilding to do - he would be smart to change waggons and grab a ring.

I can understand Shockey wanting to play with the Eagles. He has always been a winner. How would any of you like it being stuck with the horrible Giants. Shockey played on some of the best collage football teams of all time and now he wants to do the same thing in the pros. The Eagles are on the verge of being a great team and Shockey is one of the players that can take them over the edge. Goodluck Jeremey you deserve better then being stuck in New York with the lowley midgets....
