Chargers To Las Vegas; Thanks But No Thanks

The Chargers just released a statement from Special Counsel Mark Fabiani stating the following:
The Chargers today returned a phone call from the Honorable Oscar Goodman, Mayor of Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayor Goodman expressed to the Chargers his desire to explore the relocation of the team to the Las Vegas area. The Chargers thanked Mayor Goodman for his continued interest and support and then explained the team's five-year-long effort to find a publicly-acceptable stadium solution in the San Diego area. The Chargers also detailed for Mayor Goodman the Chargers' ongoing work in Chula Vista, National City and Oceanside. Finally, the Chargers concluded the conversation with Mayor Goodman by repeating the team's commitment to continue for the time being to work within San Diego County.

Great news for local fans, and a classy move on the Chargers part to remain committed to San Diego and at the same time not burning bridges with potential suitors. Still, I have a hard time believing Las Vegas is a good place for major sports club, let alone an NFL team. I may be in the minority here, but I certainly would be sketched out by the gambling influences on my team's players, owners, referees.

At least we San Diegans wont have to worry about losing the Chargers anytime soon. But there needs to be some momentum going forward with a stadium deal. We have hope, but we would rather have something concrete to look forward too (pun intended).
