Each week we've looked at the players who led the race for league MVP. Today we render our final verdict.1. Peyton Manning, quarterback, Colts: He led a team with horrid defense and special teams to 12 wins. He won't get the award, but Manning was the best player in the NFL this year.
2. LaDainian Tomlinson, running back, Chargers: Tomlinson will win easily. He's not a bad choice, but he's not the correct one, either.
3. Drew Brees, quarterback, Saints: Brees came back to earth a little bit after being sky-high for much of the season, and he ended up far short of the Dan Marino passing yards record that he once looked capable of breaking. But for the totality of his season, Brees has been outstanding.
4. Jason Taylor, defensive end, Dolphins: Retire? He shouldn't. He was the best defensive player in the league this season. Whoever the next coach of the Dolphins is, convincing Taylor to stay should be job No. 1.
5. Larry Johnson, running back, Chiefs: Another great game from Johnson against Jacksonville -- and a lot of luck with other teams losing -- led the Chiefs into the playoffs. Even if his team loses, he'll be a star this weekend, getting to play against the terrible Indianapolis run defense.

Geez....I mean I know everyone who writes for the FanHouse is a big time homer, but you sir, are the king of all homers. How many posts has this been about how Manning is the MVP now? Is anyone else outside of you ready to give the MVP to someone besides Tomlinson or Brees?
There are two schools of thought for the MVP - either it's the best player in the league or the guy who is truly the most valuable to his team. Manning was neither. Tomlinson is the best player and either him or Brees is the most valuable to their respective teams.
You say that Manning is the best player in the league, which is ridiculous. You don't think you could put any average QB on a team with Wayne and Harrison and get good results? And Manning didn't "lead" anybody. He padded his stats, choked in important games and threw his team under the bus like he does every damn year.

Drew Brees should the MVP because if he goes down unless Reggie Bush Duece McAllister and the wide receiver corps can find a quarterback who can throw the ball with pin point acccuracy with Drew did the Saints will be marching out to Coco Solo.

dude look at harrisons numbers before peyton came to the league he was just an average reciever. reggie wayne wasnt expected to be a star of the league coming out of college... peyton manning is by far the smartest QB in the league that makes the players around him better. ITS NOT HIS FAULT THE COLTS HAVENT ONE A SUPERBOWL YET!!!! to have 12 wins with that bad of a D im beginning to think hes a miracle worker!!! i agree that LT was the best player in the nfl this year and should win the MVP but peyton was more important to his team!!!! ok lets take peyton away from his team they would be like 4-12 take LT from the chargers probably 10-6. its just your opinion on how the winner should get the MVP who had the best year in stats or who won your team the most games

It is LT--all the way. Yes, the Colts would not have 12 victories and the Saints would not be in the playoffs without their respective QB's. The Chiefs would be watching the playoffs on TV without Johnson. But the MVP title doesn't have to be the "one man band award." It can mean the person who inspired his entire team to be better. LT did not do it all but his effort made his team play better--offensive line, new QB,recievers and even the defense. He is the MVP.

If you go the route of most valuable to a team, then Brees is not the top choice, Has everyone forgotten Steve McNair. He, along with the defense, led the Ravens to one o the best records in the AFC. He also provided a stable leadership quality to the team that has been lacking for some time. He was consistent all season. The most important aspect to verifying McNair as "Most Valuable" is because he plays with injury, because he knows that Kyle Boler is the back-up, and the Ravens have a better chance winning with an injured McNair than a healthy Boler.

Drew Brees is by far the MVP for 2006. He carried the Saints, the city and the whole region on his repaired shoulder and brought hope and a new attitude.

the bottom line is this, Peyton manning is the best player in football, yes there are other great players, but the fact is if you put any other QB on the colts they will have a losing season every season, I dont care about his receivers or running backs they wouldnt be able to catch it if a Mcnabb was throwing it, LT is a great player, but you could put any other Running back out there and they would have a great season, the same as the ravens, you put the ravens defense on the colts and they dont lose a game, its over, they are a complete team the same as the Patriots a complete team, but the colts wow what a offense and what a terrible horrific defense, so the player should be the most important to their team an in the game,Manning.

LT breaks the all-time TD record, carries his team (literally and figuratively), and hand SD #1 seed in the AFC, yet you like Manning for MVP? C'mon, your eggnog MUST be tainted!

It is wonderful that we can discuss the MVP situation and state our opinions - the announcement has already been made today and LT received the MVP honor. The MVP award does not state that the winner is the best player in the league but it does state that he had an outstanding year (usually following a very good year before). If the question were given to me and I could choose one player that I would start and build an NFL team around, and I could choose between LT and Peyton, I would probably choose Peyton. It doesn't mean that I don't respect LT - it just means that the quarterback situation is more demanding and is without a doubt the most difficult postion to play not only in the NFL but in all of sports. Running backs come and go but quarterbacks can determine the success of a team. Just look at Saints and see what adding Drew B to the team did. Reggie B is good but Drew made the difference in the team.

What do you mean by open your eyes about Peyton? Guy just led his team to 12 victories with one of the worst defenses in the league and the worst run defense in the history of the NFL. #1 in touchdown passes, #1 in quarterback rating, and only 9 interceptions on the season. No way the Colts are even sniffing .500 without Manning. L.T. on the other hand had just as many offensive weapons around him that Manning did not to mention he has a pretty darn good defense to fall back on when he needs to. Don`t think the Chargers would be a playoff team without L.T.? Just look at his backup, Michael Turners stats. 6.2 Yards a carry, and when given enough carries, broke the 100 yard mark on more than one occasion this season. By the way, you go ahead and take Tom Brady and the Patriots, it`s been 3 years since they have been able to beat Manning and the Colts anyway.

Sorry to inform all these so called football guru's.I am a big fan of the Colt's and Peyton Manning.LT was this year's MVP and hats off to him on a great season!!Manning on the other hand is in a league all his own. When all is said and done he will(barring any injury)be the most prolific QB in the history of the NFL.He is by far the reason the Colt's have achieved their success. He does not pad his Statistics, he just goes out and improves every year.Case in point his record 49 TD's year he was pulled out of the Thanksgiving Day game against Detroit early in the third quarter. He could have easily broken another record for most TD's in a game.Big comeback win against Tampa Bay on a Monday night game,I could go on and on.What's the point all I hear is he can't win the Big One.All I know Manning is a true Champion in every sense of the word.Enough said, GO COLT'S.

Colts fan here. Manning is all around a great player. If you watch him closely, not just during play, but even on the sidelines, he's definitely a professional. (BTW, he does some really great commercials) I have to say I am glad the NFL is still giving these valuable awards to those who deserve to get them by earning them 24/7, not just a couple of hours in a dome. I cannot give you one deserving person in the MBA. All I see are players who act like they are some way connected with gangs and killers.
