To think that this was a random shooting is rediculous because it's happening too often with NFL players and professional athletes in general. They receive hundreds of thousands of dollars to play a kids' game while acting the street punk off the field.

This is a 24 year old; he has a family who loved him. He who took precautions, and did not drink and drive. Just because some stupid fan or punk shot him,it does not reflect on his actions as a man or player. God bless his friends and family.

I am disgusted by some of the comments posted in reference to Darrent Williams’s murder. It doesn't matter that he was a professional athlete. The taking of a human life is unforgivable. What would have been your comments had he not be a professional football player. We don't have to look far to understand why society is so messed up. Some of your comments are a direct reflection of how we have fallen so far from being a respectful civilization. Hope we learn to take the higher ground in 2007. Rest in Peace Darrent, this world is troubled enough.

While I do agree with the sentiments of Monty and Ed about players being paid too much, I can't help but wonder why they assume it was a hit on him. I didn't know the young man so I won't assume he was a punk. He was shot while sitting in the limo so the attackers probably couldn't see him. It was New Years Eve and a lot of people were out last nite and I'm sure there were a lot of shootings that we will never hear about. However, if I am going to talk about people making too much money and being punks, then I will probably start with Brandon Davis and Paris Hilton. Then I would look at fruitcakes like Tom Cruise who makes $50,000,000 a picture, or Madonna in her early years.
Yes, atheletes are paid too much money for playing a game, but we buy the tickets that pay their salaries.

Follow up... It was NEW YEAR'S EVE. He was acting like a 24 year old. He had just lost a play off chance. Why was he not permitted to go out? He obviously worked hard to attain his goal, why tarnish his name? Black or white; this type of blood shed must stop.

What a tradgedy regardless of the man's location when shot. Those of you placing blame seem content with blaming HIM for where he was rather than the whack-job that did the shooting!
