Sad news out of Denver, where Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed early on New Year's Day. Williams was 24. Williams had been at a nightclub and was shot while sitting in a limousine shortly after leaving, near 11th and Grant in Denver. Police called the incident a drive-by shooting, saying a vehicle pulled up next to the limousine and someone from that vehicle shot into the limousine and drove off.
Williams was the Broncos' second-round draft pick in 2005 after a successful career at Oklahoma State. He had been Denver's starting cornerback since early in his rookie year.
A woman in the limousine with Williams was also shot. The woman's identity and condition have not been released. Reports are unclear, but a third person may have been shot as well.

To think that this was a random shooting is rediculous because it's happening too often with NFL players and professional athletes in general. They receive hundreds of thousands of dollars to play a kids' game while acting the street punk off the field.

This is a 24 year old; he has a family who loved him. He who took precautions, and did not drink and drive. Just because some stupid fan or punk shot him,it does not reflect on his actions as a man or player. God bless his friends and family.

Millionaires and they still hang with the wrong crowds, break the law and get involved with drugs. As sad as this is, there's that possibility of illicit involvement. You can take these guys out of the ghetto, but can't seem to take the ghetto out of them.

You're an idiot. Get all of the facts before blaming Williams. Did you ever go to nightclubs at 24, moron?

I am disgusted by some of the comments posted in reference to Darrent Williams’s murder. It doesn't matter that he was a professional athlete. The taking of a human life is unforgivable. What would have been your comments had he not be a professional football player. We don't have to look far to understand why society is so messed up. Some of your comments are a direct reflection of how we have fallen so far from being a respectful civilization. Hope we learn to take the higher ground in 2007. Rest in Peace Darrent, this world is troubled enough.

Sounds like some of you forgot it was New Year's Eve, a time when everybody and his brother are out partying. The way some of you find fault, you'd think there was a reward!

As long as the commissioner and his wealthy owners keep looking the other way so they keep making money this will continue to happen. Being a athelete and family man he has no right being out that late and at a place like, it's asking for trouble.

Follow up... It was NEW YEAR'S EVE. He was acting like a 24 year old. He had just lost a play off chance. Why was he not permitted to go out? He obviously worked hard to attain his goal, why tarnish his name? Black or white; this type of blood shed must stop.

The tragedy in this will probably be that it will be another black on black crime. That's what so heart-rending to me is that blacks are killing each other. The violence needs to end in their own communities, against each other. And, until enough black men, who have fathered children by, many times, more than one woman, step up to the plate and become involved in their children's lives and set the example, teaching right from wrong and teaching pride in their black heritage, these types of crimes will continue to happen. It's truly tragic, but black people must look to themselves to solve their crime rate.

What a tradgedy regardless of the man's location when shot. Those of you placing blame seem content with blaming HIM for where he was rather than the whack-job that did the shooting! Come on...his lifestyle may (MAY!) justify a condescending attitude by those of you who are perfect and wholesome but it does NOT justify murder!

Patrick you sound prejiduce and racist. There are some blacks that are doing good things in their communities to help others out. No matter what someone's character is like it is still a trajedy when a life is taken.

Wow..How can people be so heartless! My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and team mates who I am sure will miss him very much. This is why america is in the hatefull state it is in because so many people instead of extending their condolences are so much to judge and condem we need to be there for each other instead of tearing each other apart. Love and concern goes alot farther than hate.

To Patrick, and I suppose you think Catholic priest molesting children for decades, the Columbine school shooting and the Oklahoma bombing are all acts of contributing to society and humanity?
