The Colts will take on the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the playoffs in the RCA Dome Saturday, January 6th. The Chiefs barley snuck into the playoffs thanks to the 49ers pulling off an upset in Mile High in overtime to knock the Broncos out of the playoffs. The Jets seemed like an easier match-up for the Colts, and the Broncos seemed to have a better chance at upsetting the Patriots in Foxboro.
The Chiefs run the ball as well and as often as anyone in the NFL and Larry Johnson will give the Colts a very tough task as they have to at least "tame" him to let Peyton take the field. Trent Green and the Chiefs receivers shouldn't scare anyone too much, but you can expect about 75% run plays since the Chiefs love to run the ball, and the Colts hate to stop it.
The Chiefs rank 23rd in the NFL in sacks, and frankly, their pass rush doesn't intimidate anyone, so you should expect the Colts to pass all over them, even with Patrick Surtain and Ty Law, who should give Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne a tough matchup. But if the Chiefs decide to single cover one of the Colts big recievers, look for that guy to have an explosive day. Don't foget that the last time the Colts played the Chiefs, Marvin and Reggie combined for 238 and 4 touchdowns.
Things never seem to make sense in the playoffs, but there is one thing we all know for sure: It's playoff time!

The Colts will win if they put more points on the board against the Chiefs and if they can slow down Larry Johnson running in the playoff game.

Not to nitpick George, but that sounded an awful lot like a Theismannism. "If you put more points on the board and stop the run you'll win." That pretty much holds true for everyone, doesn't it?

Yep, teams tend to win when they score more than the other team.
Anyone know the line on when Larry Johnson's legs explode? I'm thinking sometime between 5 minutes left in the second quarter and halftime.

You make a really good point Towwb. I think I just saw that Larry Johnson set the record for most carries by one running back in a season? If true, that's ridiculous. In todays age in football, a lot of teams are going to the two RB set thing, but not the Chiefs. Doubtful that will make a difference in the game but it may very well make a huge diference in his career.

First of all, Larry Johnson isn't human so I'm not worried about him getting tired. You make some good points Eric. The main thing I agree with you on is that its the playoffs- anything can happen.

I think that the Chiefs are a very stong team! Larry Johnson is going to be the determoning factor. It's going to be a high scoring game but I think the Colts will be to hard to stop. The colts will take this one.
