There is an old saying that goes like this: Offense wins games. Defense wins championships! And for this year's Bears it could only be even more accurate if that statement including something about Special Teams. This game had me feeling jittery, anxious, pissed off, and made me so happy at times I could feel my blood going through my body at a high rate! The defense single handedly won this game with turn over after turnover. Several turnovers left us in great position to score and Ricky Manning Jr. jumped an out route and took one to the house. Throw in a a Devin Hester punt return and a safety and this game wasn't even as close. Which is very odd, because the first three quarters had me feeling on edge except for when the D was creating plays. The edgy feeling of course came from the play of Rex Grossman who despite his worst efforts actually managed the game better then Brad Johnson (who eventually got benched).
Despite this joyous day there is plenty to be concerned about. Primarily the play of Rex Grossman. Yes it was cold and windy but this is Chicago. If you can't play well and manage a game here in the cold then you shouldn't be the QB. Yes, the Minnesota defense made a couple of plays that skewed the INT numbers but if you look at the rest of Rex's passes. They looked downright terrible. It looks as if his hand is too small and he can't grip the ball well enough when the ball is a frozen rock.
I feel good today because wrapped up the division and are that much closer to home field advantage throughout the playoffs. I am concerned about our run defense, though. We have given up too many big runs over the last five games and with Tommie Harris' status in question you have to wonder how we can tighten it up.
Final Score:
Vikings 13
Bears 23
Other game notes
- The refs still suck
- Benson looked really good again running the ball
- Vasher left with a hammy boo boo
- I was knocking Lance Briggs' tackling last week but it happens. The Bears need to give him a better offer and hope he takes it. 5 Mil should do it.

I am Glad that Chicago Bears have Clinched the NFC North Conference, but it wasn't do to Rex Grossman's proformance at the Quarterback position. We have to come to the Conclusion that Rex isn't the Guy to take the Bears to the Super Bowl, and Much less, Win It!
I am So Tired of listening to Rex's excuses about his poor performances. At this point in the season, we should be hitting on ALL Cylinders, and racing toward Victory, but instead we are Puttering & Farting, stopping & starting and general putting forth an Embarassing Exhibition of Pro Football.
If Lovie Smith Doesn't start Brian Griese for the Rams game, and evaluate his performance, then I really doubt Mr. Smith's Coaching abilities. The Rest of these games are not going to matter as far as the playoff are concerned, so we should use them to evaluate our other Quarterbacks, under Game Situations.

i think that the fans booing rex is not creating a home field advantage and you could see that after the first pick and booing that he had little or no confidence. as fans you need to encourage the players and support them not boo them. they are 10-2 not 2-10 and as big as a rex fan as i am i think you giver him one last chance. i also think that ron turner needs to set him up for success a little better because his best pass is the post route and i did not see them call that route enough. go bears!

I am also happy the Bears won the division, and yes, it was another very poor performance by Grossman.. But, how can booing him change anything he does on the field?? Do you scream in the face of a young student because every subject is not coming sooo easy for him or her.. If Brian Griese was the answer, don't you think Denver and Shanahan would've held onto him, in light of the quarterback woes they're going through?? I still believe Rex is going to be a Super Bowl worthy quarterback, given some more time, provided the team around him stays in tact. Or maybe the Bears could get Mike Vick, and he'd surely put an end to the booing by flippin' 'em all off. And it seemed more to me that Rex is owning up to his mistakes, not making excuses for 'em.

I just get tired of watching him smiling and joking on the sidelines after he has just screwed up again. He does not have a thing to be happy about with the exception that he has a great DEFENSE without Lovie and the Defense he would be watching Football on T.V. GO BEARS despite Grossman.

Nothing to do with Grossplaying, I mean Grossman, but this game reinforces the point I made the last time I posted a comment about the defenders (not just the Bears, see the Giants last week) being jittery when it comes to hitting QB's. That roughing the passer call against Urlacher was another indicator of the refs white-gloving the QB's when they should be letting them play the game. Helmet to helmet, SLAMMING to the ground, going for the legs is one thing, but a love tap and a QB not being able to keep his balance and getting a penalty is worse than some punters who should get Academy Awards for thier acting when they get brushed by a defender running by and get a roughing the kicker call. It is after all a contact sport.

What is wrong here??? I love Chicago and am a big Chicago sports fan. The Cubs, Blackhawks, Bulls, and most of all, the Bears. When I was 13 we got transferred to St. Louis, but I still stood by my Chicago teams. I have stood by them no matter how well they did or did not do. Now I feel most Chicago fans have changed. How do they not appreciate this Bears team???
The start of the season, I had read the Bears were picked, by some, to finish first in their Division. As a Chicago fan, you have to be skeptical. Coming into the season, I, and every Bear fan I talked to, expected them to finish in the top of the NFC North, but 10 and 2...I never expected that! Now all you hear is trash talk about our quarterback and the rest of the team the second they make a "mistake". Did any of you see our offense from last year??? Give Grossman a break, he is still young and if it wasn't for him, we probably wouldn't have the record we did. Yes, he has made mistakes, especially recently, but come on, we are 10 and 2!! We are a great team and have done way beyond my, and the real Bears fans expectations. I say, congratulations, to the Chicago Bears for making this Chicago fan happy for how far they have come!

I'm glad the bears won, 10-2 in spite of grossman, says alot about the teams character, their will to win, what i dont understand is why when rex turns the ball over he goes to the sidelines and you see him joking and smiling. WHY IS'NT HE ON THE PHONE WITH THE GUYS UPSTAIRS OR LOOKING AT THE PICTURES OF THE DEFENSE TO SEE WHAT IS GOING ON SO HE KNOWS WHAT TO LOOK FOR NEXT TIME,i have never seen someone act like that, somebody needs to wake him up.

The BooBirds came out because, well, GRex needed to be benched immediately after he tossed the third one. Hell, he should've been benched after he fell on his @$$ and refused to get up. They weren't booing GRex as much as they were booing Lovie Smith for not getting GRex out of there, and at least TRYING somebody else as their QB.
GRex simply is not performing. I can see that he has a wealth of talent, but so did Cade McNown. If it were up to me, I'd rather see GRex do what he did in the Jets game; manage the clock, hand off to Jones and Benson, and throw those dink'n'dunk passes that define our offense. There is absolutely no need to go big on every single play. Run some short slants or midrange cross routes. Where did the TEs go? What happened to Jones in the passing game? Where's Moose? Bradley? Davis? Get those guys in the 7-13 yard range, and good things will start happening. Also, like both Goose and Moose were saying in the second and third quarters, why are the Bears leaving Grex in the pocket? He looked much better bootlegging to the right than he did as a target in the pocket...

Chicago fans, will they always be the same, glad to be here no matter how we get there, and if we don't win it all well look we made the playoffs!!!!
Been a Bear and Cub fan for about 47 years, we have become the town of lovable losers, yes there was that brief respite when somebody named Jordan and the 1985 Bears did there thing, but since its always loserville with a smile.
OK the real facts we were pretty succesfull with somebody named Kyle Orton also but no banana . Now we pick up a competent veteran QB and we don't want him ready for the playoffs, yes we know REX's injury history, and what if Rex is having a bad playoff game???
Chicago style, wait for the disaster then worry about it.
1985 somebody named McMahon, not a great QB but one who knew how to manage a game, played smart enough to help not hinder the defense, Superbowl, can you play for anything less???
Its great to clinch the division, but now is the time to get ready for the playoffs, why not let Griese knock off some rust from sitting on the bench, try to establish a running game and have as a goal, winning the Superbowl...I'm hopeful but if Lovie doesn't use all his players well it will be another wait till next year, meanwhile the excuses will be many and the blame will run rampant....

Congratulations on the Bears winning the division. I have watched every game, every down this season. I am at a total loss as to why Brian Griese cannot get into a game in any situation with any score. Yesterday being a prime example. First your starting quarterback is stinking up the field. Second, it's the fourth quarter, 8 minutes to play, a comfortable lead, why not put your back-up in...he can't do any worse. I don't understand this loyalty that Smith has with Grossman. Grossman is playing BAD football period! He dosen't see wide open reciever, he has no mobility, he misses receivers that are open, and throws into questionable coverage. The Bears are 10-2(should be 9-3 Arizona game was a fluke). This record is not because of Grossman, it's in despite of Grossman. I say make the change. Shannahan did it, Parcell did it. The best thing Lovie can say is " We're 10-2 with this quarterback. SO WHAT!!! Grossman is stinking up the field. MAKE THE CHANGE!!!! Griese must be wondering "How bad does this guy have to play before I get in?"

St Louis is no pushover and the Bears will have a tough time if they insist on testing Grossman's weak arm. They should develop their running game and throw SHORT passes and if Grossman cannot handle that assignment, bench him for Orton, not Griese because there is not future in Griese.

Da Bears--First thing is when the new Bears are doing well, they always compare them to 1985 Bears--NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!. I have been a die hard Bears fan for over thirty five years. Even in 1985, I remember yelling at Ditka to pull the quarterback. Bears have never had a great quarterback--Why, because the powers to be are cheap.
Grossman has a great arm but his judgement is horrible, why because lets look at the quarterback coach. HE SUCKS,PLAIN AND SIMPLE. He sucked when he was playing and he sucks now. Lets look at some of his reads, they suck. Grossman's numbers in Sept. were deceiving, because most of his passes were bombs. The Bears have never been and will never be an offensive power. Hell Walsh couldn't make this possible. Did you see the Indy game yesterday, after the field goal, Manning with one second left was going crazy on the sideline asking for the ball. That is what makes a great quarterback, Grossman would be sitting on the sideline, smiling.
Next problem is the defense. Rivera chose speed over girth. Great except for one thing, NO PRESSURE ON THE QUARTERBACK. He has the two outside men running wide out ( all the time, they never cut in ) which makes the quarterback step up. The problem here is that the two inside linemen can't push, putting pressure on the quarterback because they are too small. So that allows the opposing quarterback to step up and have a 30 second pocket to throw. PEYTON MANNING WOULD THROW FOR OVER 600 YARDS IF HE PLAYED US-NOT KIDDING. There is never any pressure on the quarterback. That is why we lost to New England. On plays that we need to hold, we suck at stopping the 3rd down conversion. Teams are seeing that their offensive line are big enough to push our defensive line out so hence why everyone is running all over us.
I will never be a Monday morning quarterback but I give credit to Lovie to hold his ground. Griese is not the answer, coaching is. Rex could be great with the right coach, but it seems lately that the minds to be are calling quarterback plays that are bombs or bust. Guess where we are????

Lovie smith says we are 10-2 with Grossman at QB. No changes will be made. HOW in the Heck did he make coach of the year being so blind to the fact that Grossman is not Ready. Backup,Maybe. Starter not yet. Put in Brian and see what he can do before it's too late. He can't do any worse. Look what the Cryboys in Dallas did with Romo. Saved their season. Ours is going down the drain quick with all the excuses from grossman and the hardheadedness of Lovie. BEAR DOWN!!!

10-2 not bad despite rex grossmans play lately. But remember last year with ortin they went 11-5, won the division and then lost at home in playoffs. The defense can not be counted on to win games in the playoffs with a mistake prone QB. Sit Rex and give Brian a shot. At least you will see how he handles the offense in case of an injury.

The Bears play 4 more games against teams with losing records. The rest of the NFC is two games back and all play at least two teams with winning records. 2 wins will get home field for the play offs. Give Grossman two more weeks and see if he hits his form from the beginning of the season again. If he can't, Greise would have two weeks of regular season and a bye week to get up to speed. Don't think you can pull Grossman yet. How can you argue with a winning record?

Rex Grossman will never make it as a quarterback. If he can't get his confidence playing for the best team in the Division, he never will. Lovie is not a professional if he can't put the team ahead of everything else. The Bears blew it last year and will do so again if Grossman continues to play. That is even more obvious than Iraq.

I ONLY CARE ABOUT ONE THING,,,PLAYOFFS. I GUESS I AM TO OLD TO CARE ABOUT A "GOOD" SEASON. THIS IS THE BEARS MOMENT IN THE SUN. AND THE LAST TWO PLAYOFF EXPERIENCES FOR THE BEARS WERE HORRIBLE,,"ONE AND DONE". WE WILL JUST SEE IF THIS COACH,THIS GM,AND THIS STAFF, CAN TAKE THE BEARS GREAT PLAYERS FURTHER,,
DOESN'T MATTER WHO IS PLAYING QB...JUST MAKE IT TO MIAMI,,,,
