Sorry guys, this page is not cached from a few weeks ago. Hitting the refresh button will still bring up the same page. For this past Sunday's loss against the Patriots, our Weekly Bomber of the Midway is Rex Grossman.
Rex was downright terrible in this game and he is becoming a familiar face on the Bomber of the Week article when the Bears lose. If it wasn't for the Bears having the best defense in the league, Rex would own three "Bomber" awards for his putrid play against Arizona, Miami, and New England.
I don't know what it is about Rex. When he's good, he's damn good! When he's bad, he's REALLY bad. I know he's doing everything he can to win. I don't doubt that for a second. I just wish he could calm himself down and think things through. The fumble on the snap at NE's four yard line is inexcusable and all but cost the Bears the victory.
So please Rex (and Ron), slow down. Even the trivial things need to be thought about and executed properly. You know damn well you're hands were too far apart on that snap. Give yourself ample time to think things through. I know we are 9-2 with you, which is awesome. I just don't want to be 0-1 in the playoffs because you failed to do the simple things.
Now let's go tear up the Vikings secondary!

Don't forget the first vikings game that the Defense pulled Rex's butt out of the fire, and the fact that the vikings defense dropped at least three easy interceptions, including one that would have been run back easily for a TD.

I think it's time to get Brian Griese some game time. I am certain that while these teams have made some progress since seeing each other earlier this season, I still believe that we can beat them, especially at home. Now would be the Time to get Griese into the game and get some experience playing the Bears Offense, just in case he is needed later on.
Rex can still be the Man, but by putting Brian in now we can get a Good Look at how well the offense would operate under his guidance.
Even bringing in Kyle Orton would make sense as well. I for one, do NOT want to put all my Playoff eggs in Rex Grossman's basket. Although some fans may not care about how Rex excuses his mistakes, with a Teenage type retort of, "Ah Shucks, I Goofed Up", and say it with a churlish grin.
I say it's time to separate the Men from the Boys, and let the Men take us thru the Playoffs, and let the Boys carry the water for a Change!

The Bears defense is always pulling Grossman out of the fire. If Grossman can't pull it together he will be the ONE person that blows the playoffs.

Typical Chicago fans, the sky is falling, the sky is falling. 9-2 is an awesome record in the NFL. Any team who goes into games against the Giants, Jets and New England on the road and comes home 2-1 would feel pretty happy. The is the NFL, the best of the best. There are no easy games and no weeks off. Granted to win the ultimate prize Rex needs to stop making stupid mistakes. How much is that a factor of Ron Turner's game plan, which is a down the field passing game? As the weather turns bad, a solid running game, and strong defense can get the job done.

Excellent post sonny. It is time for us to see griese and see what he can do. He can't play any worse worse than rex has in the last 6 games.

Excellent post madman. Here's our thing though. We want to win and we want to win it all, NOW! 9-2 is awesome. But we all know we should be 8-3 possibly even 7-4 without the defense. Griese can do everything Turner asks of Rex. We just don't believe that Griese will give the game away when things don't go right.

You put in Griese and you get the same crappy playcalling and a very limited QB. Let's spread the blame to the coaching staff as well. Why the hell did we settle for a field goal on 4th and 3 inside the 20, down by 7?

I'm still lost as to why people think the offense needs to change so much if Griese goes in. He can make the deep throws and he can probably more accurately. Besides, we should only really have to go deep four times a game if our running game is really good. Heck even Kyle Orton got us 10 wins with a dink and dunk offense.
I do think Ron Turner is at fault just as much as Lovie. Terrible thinking. Grow some balls and go for it and take the heat if you don't get it. No one would blame you if we didn't get it.

The Patroits are on a playoff run and they were playing at home and wanted to beat up the Bears. Rex Grossman will allright if the running game works and Rex doesn't have to be Hercules saving Toot from the Purple People Eaters this sunday. Have fun.

Dave I agree with you, I dug up some stats and found that griese actually has averaged more yards per pass attempt than grossman, it was 7.05 to 6.9. Grossman average almost 3 completions of 20+ yards to griese's 2.5. They are just about equal on 40+ yard completions per game. Plus, griese is a much better passer in the 5-20 yard range where grossman has particular problems seeing over the line to find his receivers. This is why a lot of his passes are bombs or short dumps, and he gets picked a lot in that 5-20 yard area. Most NFL passing is in the 5-20 yard area. So all the crap about griese not being able to go deep is vastly overstated, plus he is better in the range where most offenses do most of their passing. The offense would probably have only a slight drop off on long plays (bombs which you can't rely on week and week out) but me more efficient in the short and intermediate range passing game, which you can rely on week in and week out. the offense will change dramatically crowd really needs to go look at the stats and numbers, they just don't back their position up.

david, glad to see that you've mellowed since the "time to change q.b." post. a q.b. change this late in the season is way too risky. your point about turner being at fault is right-on. smarter play calling could have prevented turnovers. grossman is an average q.b. but turner seems to think he's the next joe montana. i'd like to see more plays based on keeping the defense honest.

Yeah I have cooled off a bit but I would still like to see Griese in. A QB change at this point can only help us. We are one game away from clinching the NFC title. I mean look what Denver is doing. Their 7-4 in the heat of the battle and their putting IN a rookie, not taking one out. We should make the change and at least use the next few games to see who's better. If there is a substantial drop off or much better results then we know for sure what we should do going into the playoffs.

Sorry David, I just don't see how creating a QB controversy at this point in the season will help this team at all. Denver is going to Cutler because they NEED to make a change or else they'll lose out on the playoffs. The Bears are 9-2 with Rex and need to stick with the guy. Rex has proven that he can make some SPECTACULAR throws and clearly has chemistry with his receivers (Moose and Davis). As hard as it is to watch him struggle sometimes, you just can't quit on a guy who has shown some serious talent. Instead of tampering with QB personnel, tamper with offensive formations, like a shotgun, to see if we can get Rex better looks. Sorry Dave, but Rex is our man, like it or not.

On the other hand, Rex DID seem to perform better when there was competition for the position from Griese. Hopefully Rex can put all of this to rest by coming out and putting up some solid numbers like he SHOULD. FYI this Minnesota game is a trap for us. We should win, but Grossman was talking SHH after he made the game winning TD throw against the Vikings earlier in the season. They're def. gonna use it for locker room material to motivate the players to smash Rex. Then again there are a lot of smack talkers out there and all that matters is how you play, not what you say. I don't know about you guys, but I'm not gonna be happy unless the Bears DESTROY Brad Johnson and the Vikings!

WELL;SORRY but I can only think that if they leave in rex it will be the end of the season for the bears. They could beat anyone if corky does not flake. bring in a relif pitcher for one game,if it dont work then go back to corky.the divison is won so whats to lose.look at Romo,Huard, harrington, etc. At least try while the you have the time to. LONG TIME BEAR LOVER PLEASE TRY.

I am a bears fan and also a fighting illini fan. I would have to put some of the preasure on ron turner. If anyone knows his track record they would see that he has had a horrible career. Rex still deserves most of the credit for there offensive problems. But turner needs to put rex in a position to gain a little confidense.DA BEARS!!!
