If you lose two games in a row, and you need a hero, where do you turn? The New England Patriots have turned to Vinny motherflippin' Testaverde, that's who.
It's a drastic and unprecedented move by Bill Belichick, but I agree: Tom Brady threw an interception against the Jets, and the rightful thing to do is to bench him for Vinny Testaverde. Tom Brady screams "mediocrity." Vinny Testaverde screams "Italian Superhero," and finally, the Patriots have an answer for the Colts' Peyton Manning. Vinny Testaverde is the man to lead the Patriots to a Super Bowl victory. Contract terms were undisclosed, but I assume he got something like an 8-year deal for $75 million, all guaranteed.
Okay, I sort of doubt that any of those things are going to happen.
In fact, I think it's very unlikely that Testaverde will ever see the field of play, and Vinny is probably making Gostkowski money. I can't even think of a reason the Pats would do this, unless they're for some reason unhappy with Matt Cassell. To the best of my knowledge, the Pats have no issues with quarterback health, and it seems like a weird time of the season to be shoring up that 3rd quarterback spot.

OK, this is probably a huuuuuge stretch, but could it be that Belli-dick is trying to tweak Mangini just a bit, being that Testaverde's last team was the Jets?? It's unlikely he'll ever get on the field, not with Cassell ahead of him, although maybe there's some plan afoot to get him on briefly to extend his touchdown streak (only player in the league to throw for a TD each year, over 19 seasons)?? Better to do it in a Patriots uniform than a Jets'? All very strange....

Maybe nobody noticed that Brady had a elboe strap around his throwing arm. Maybe Brady needs to heal. He's not been himself in the last three game's so, Maybe Vinny can spell him in some of there game's. Tommy has been getting hit on a regular basis latly so. I know one thing for sure, Belichk couldn't have picked a better man the Vinny. Common Vinny take us home. (# 4) Nobody give's us much of a chance.

Why not throw in Doug Flutie or cordel Stewart as part of a two for one deal ?

I think the reason is that it will give Brady someone to talk to on the sidelines. Talk to Chad Pennington and Tony Romo. Those guys gush when they talk about how helpful Vinny was to them. I realize that everyone thinks that Tom Brady walks on water, but he doesn't have another guy on that sideline who he can sort of confer with. Vinny is a guy who has seen it all in this league. I think Vinny has been brought in to help Tom Brady -- AND be there just in case Brady gets hurt.

Vinny'll get the nod because he can bench at least 350...pounds baby!!! Pounds. He's good with the calfs the legs, the whole nine yards. Plus he can repair those starter-motors.

Vinny can throw the long ball still, and in situations where Tom is exhaused and the game is on the line, I see Bill putting Vinny in for a series - I think it's a great move, also, Vinny will be on board for coaching consideration later. Vinny has such a bad rap, but if you consider how God awful Tampa Bay was and look at the rest of his career, he's actually done some really good stuff. I will NEVER forget his improvised Monday Night miracle playing - totally great football instinct.

It's pretty simple why they signed Vinny. Its a classic Belechick and Pioli move, take in a ring hungry old school Vet basically as a motivational tool for the rest of the locker room. Midway through the season its easy for some players to get distracted or 'mellowed' out by the weekly grind of the NFL. Some of them lose the big picture that they're not playing for the division or the conference...but the RING. Having a Vet like Vinny come in reminds everyone of the big picture. Plus with over 10 mil in cap space, its not like the Pats are hurtin for any $$.
