Okay, that's probably an exaggeration. But it's my hope that either of those gentlemen will see that headline, and then think, "Hey, that's crazy! I don't want him to die. I kind of like him, in fact." And then he'll pick up the phone and call him, and they'll both apologize, and the next thing you know, their shirts are off and they're listening to "Oh, Randy."
But yes, for some reason, the two gentlemen do appear to have a dislike for each other. And it's sort of a shame. Mangini used to work under Belichick as a defensive backs coach when the Patriots were winning Super Bowls, and was even their defensive coordinator in 2005.
Neither one will mention the other, and no one seems to know what's causing the friction between them. I offer the following guesses:
- Once, Belichick overheard Mangini saying that he thought Tom Brady was "okay looking, but it's not like he's the hottest guy in the world or something." Belichick punched him in the face, and has never forgiven him.
- "Eric Mangini" isn't his real name ... it's Vincent Shenocca.
- Belichick has never wanted to take the field in a sweatshirt with the sleeves cut off. Eric Mangini broke into his closet and cut the sleeves off all his sweatshirts, and the toes out of all his socks.
- Mangini sold weed to Bill's son.

These two coaches are the answer to one of the NFL's best trivia questions: "which 2 NFL coaches graduated from the same university and which university?"
Answer: Wesleyan Univ in Middletwown, Conn which ranks in the top 10 in the US academically but plays the likes of Amherst, Williams, and Trinity in football.

Not only did both Eric Mangini and Bill Belichick both go to Wesleyan, but they were both in the same fraternity, Chi Psi.

Finkelstein, you forgot the "liberal arts" part when you clumped Wesleyan with the likes of Dartmouth, UChicago, Wash U, and Cornell.
