The Curse of Herm Edwards: Damon Huard Uncertain for Sunday's Game

Herm Edwards must have bullied pee-wee quarterbacks when he was in high school. Whatever he did wrong, he's paid for his indiscretions in spades.

First, he deals with Edward Rubber-arm in New York with Chad Pennington, who has a new arm surgery once every new moon. Then, he deals with his pro bowl starting quarterback Trent Green falling to injury in the first game of the season. Now, it appears that he'll be playing with half a deck once again. The Kansas City Star has reported that Damon Huard's status for this Sunday's game is uncertain because of a groin pull. Per the report:
Damon Huard suffered an undisclosed injury toward the end of practice, a source close to the team said, and his status is uncertain for Sunday's game with the Seahawks.

This is disastrous news for the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs will have to rely on the right arm of Brodie Croyle, a rookie quarterback who had more success throwing to opponents' jerseys than to his own in his brief appearance so far this season. It also means that the Chiefs will be forced to play the heat of their own playoff hunt with a third-string quarterback. While I don't doubt that Brodie Croyle has upside, he seems to be a far cry from ready for the big time. This is discomforting news to Kansas City Chiefs' fans, but pretty representative of what they've seen for years: every time the team seems to finally click, some disruptive force of nature tears it apart. The Chiefs are obviously cursed.

Trent Green isn't cleared to play until mid-November. The Chiefs need for Huard to play healthy until then. There is still a chance that Huard can play, but it appears that he may not play at 100% the rest of the way.

The two bright sides, I suppose, is it makes the matchup against the Seahawks a whole lot more intriguing. The other bright side, I suppose, is that there will no longer be a quarterback controversy when Green is cleared to play again. Either way, this is not good news at all for Chiefs' fans.
