PinnacleSports.com has created odds on the first coach to lose their job this season. Number one on the list is who you thought it was, Arizona Cardinals head coach (for now) Dennis Green. Here's the rest of the list:
| Dennis Green | 1/1 |
| Romeo Crennel | 7/1 |
| Art Shell | 8/1 |
| Nick Saban | 9/1 |
| Dick Jauron | 11/1 |
| Jeff Fisher | 13/1 |
| Joe Gibbs | 13/1 |
| Mike Nolan | 15/1 |
| Rod Marinelli | 15/1 |
| Jon Gruden | 24/1 |
| Bill Cowher | 31/1 |
| Mike McCarthy | 31/1 |
Now, while condoning gambling in no way, shape or form, the official prop is listed as "First NFL Coach to Lose His Job by Jan 8, 2007." So I'm assuming that means that if someone like Joe Gibbs or Bill Cowher resigned at the end of the season, before anyone was fired, that they would be the winner.
Which is why I think Gibbs and Cowher are the best bets here. Obviously, Dennis Green is the most likely to get canned mid-season, but the payouts on Gibbs and especially Cowher are much better. There have been rumors that Gibbs' wife wants him to quit this season and return to NASCAR, and of course, there were the preseason rumors about Bill Cowher possibly getting out of the coaching game after this year.
All that would have to happen for Gibbs or Cowher to win is for the season to pass with no midseason firings (which I think is fairly likely), the Redskins and/or Steelers to miss the playoffs (almost a certainty that one of them won't be making the playoffs) and the rumors about one of them to be true (fifty/fifty shot). That's where I'd put my money.

I think you can add Andy Reid to your list because after this afternoons "debacle" against Jacksonville, the only clock he seems to have no trouble manageing is the one that's on the stove timing his meals!
