Sure, running back Travis Henry was a second-round pick and has a couple of 1,000 yard rushing seasons to his credit, but he's three years removed from those heady days in Buffalo. And even after a strong start to his career, the Bills still used a first-round pick on Willis McGahee, who eventually replaced Henry as he struggled with turnovers and injuries. Ultimately, the running back situation in Buffalo became untenable, and Henry was traded to the Tennessee Titans.
That was 2005. Henry only started once during his first year in Tennessee -- the last game of the season -- and that was before serving a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. He ended the season with 335 rushing yards on 88 carries and no touchdowns. Yeah, not good.
This year, Henry already has 383 rushing yards on 81 carries and three touchdowns. And thanks to the Washington Redskins, 178 of those yards (and one of the touchdowns) came last Sunday.
It's way too early to proclaim Henry is back to his early-career form, but he's certainly come a long way since first arriving in Tennessee. And Jeff Fisher agrees: the mustachioed head coach plans to give most of the carries to Henry and rookie LenDale White while Chris Brown is the odd man out.
Okay, pointing out that Henry beat Brown for the starting job is hardly a ringing endorsement -- or much of an achievement, for that matter -- but if nothing else, it's good to see the guy reviving his career after hitting a rough patch.
So congrats to Travis Henry for not sucking as much as Chris Brown.
