Why is this man smiling? He just got promoted. Arizona Cardinals head coach Dennis Green announced today that he will replace offensive coordinator Keith Rowen with quarterbacks coach Mike Kruczek. Rowen becomes the first casualty of the Cardinals Monday Night Meltdown, in which they threw away a 20-point lead with continued running plays that went nowhere.

Kruczek was a Pittsburgh Steelers backup in the 1970s and is expected to have a less conservative approach to the offense. Rowen was hired by Green after a stint as an assistant with the Kansas City Chiefs. It was thought that his experience in the Kansas City offense, which was similar to the St. Louis offense Kurt Warner once ran, would make him a good pairing with Warner. Rowen is the second offensive coordinator to lose his job today after the Ravens got rid of Jim Fassel. The life of an NFL assistant coach isn't easy.
