Why is this man smiling? He just got promoted. Arizona Cardinals head coach Dennis Green announced today that he will replace offensive coordinator Keith Rowen with quarterbacks coach Mike Kruczek. Rowen becomes the first casualty of the Cardinals Monday Night Meltdown, in which they threw away a 20-point lead with continued running plays that went nowhere.Kruczek was a Pittsburgh Steelers backup in the 1970s and is expected to have a less conservative approach to the offense. Rowen was hired by Green after a stint as an assistant with the Kansas City Chiefs. It was thought that his experience in the Kansas City offense, which was similar to the St. Louis offense Kurt Warner once ran, would make him a good pairing with Warner. But now that Warner has lost his job to Matt Leinart, that thinking goes out the window.
Rowen is the second offensive coordinator to lose his job today after the Ravens got rid of Jim Fassel. The life of an NFL assistant coach isn't easy.

doesn't the buck stop w/ the head coach. If he doesn't like the play calling during the game, why doesn't he just start calling the plays himself? Or at least tell him to be more agressive. Stupid!!!
It seems the Offensive Coordinator gave in to all of James's whining and crying over the past 2 weeks because he(James)wasn't getting to run the ball enough in the 4th quarter. Well, he sure got the ball enough in the 4th quarter last night, and what did he do with it? NOTHING!!! The coaches are paid to coach, not listen to the whining and crying of players, so yes, the Offensive Coordinator needed to be fired!
Last week Denny calls a timeout "his last" just prior to a chip shot by the KC kicker and leaves his rookie QB with no timeouts for the final drive.
The local press or should I say a_ _ kissing brown noses can't say a negative word because they may lose access to the players, coach, locker room or the free seats. The local press is about as pathetic as Denny. "VIEW FROM THE PRESS BOX" by Kent "thank God I got a job as a sports writer" Somers "Six weeks into Denny's 3rd season, and the Cards finally play like he has been expecting." Kent they blew a 20 point lead with less than a minute left in the 3rd quarter and they played EXACTLY like a Denny coached team and I guess your right like Denny expected "shabby".! The AM radio hosts Coach someone who sounds like a washed up coach that got an AM radio gig in his twilight and the host who's obviusly hoping that his dream AM radio gig doesn't end... they say the coach wasn't on the field and didn't make the mistakes. Don't make the Cards mad boys keep the the brown nosing. "Pay"ola Boivin likes it that Matt Leinart "strutted his stuff"& that Sir Charles; Demi; Ashton; & Wilmer were in the owner's box. Just the candy coated crap you'd expect from Pay ola maybe there's still a chance she can get a brainless sideline reporting job. And then there's Bickly Boy spouting out how Dirk jumped the shark...! Meanwhile Denny's playing jump rope over the shark. Everyone else is blaming Bidwell because he's 11 million under the cap. we have a former super bowl MVP, league MVP, the NFL's former leading rusher, a Heisman winner, 2 of the best 5 recievers in the league a decent defense and no one is looking at the coach. This is his team and he can't motivate it or teach it to win because he's a LOSER; he had the same talent in Minnesota and couldn't deliver the goods. Sean Payton's doing a great job in New Orleans and Lovie Smith is Vince Lombardi compared to Green. So hopefully after the Raiders kick our tails; maybe just maybe one of the so-called sports reporters may just say it's time for a change" be careful guys you may actually get scolded for your views. Denny have some class RESIGN before you go 4 and 12....! GO RAIDERS.....PS I like the Cards in 2007-2008 season a new coach with a ton of young talent just waiting for someone to get out of their way and let them play. PSS. These guys James, Leinart, Warner, Boldin, Fitzgerald and most of the defense all came from programs that were winners it's the Denny Taint that's causing the problem folks. (Carmen2468, October 17, 2006 05:58PM)
This is to the clueless Carmen2468 and his pathetic attempt at making a point, as well all the other's who want to see Dennis Green go away. Awww...did your poor feeling get hurt when your team lost? Did they bring your hopes up only to watch it fall...fall hard? Do you really think that we coaches don't feel a 100 times more the pain and frustration that shoots through your soul? Are you so ignorant that you can't admit to yourself...if Racker's kick was good...if Warner hadn't fumbled the ball...and so on, that you'd be just fine with Dennis Green. And if he was such a loser, then why has he won more games than most people in the NFL? Do you even know that it was his brilliant read of the Bears and his game plan that put the points on the board and turned, what was supposed to be a power offense into a junior varsity mess up. And it was single handedly coach Green's motivation that pumped up a group of men to raise to levels that the world thought they could never reach. Yes, their have been changes made, but to lose the builder of what we have now is stupid! I'v never written on anything like this before and I never thought I would. Know nothings like you make me sick enough to want to stop associating myself with the game I love. I for now KNOW that coach Green is the smartest play maker I have ever worked with. You should be ashamed of yourself for attacking what you can not control. Grow up and support us because you think of us as family. Or maybe your the type of low life who would you kick your kids out because they hurt your precious feelings.
Hey Clancy P was it Denny's brilliant read or 6 bears turnovers? And given the fact that other than Gibbs; Parcells, Cowher, Holmgren , Reid & Fisher the rest of the NFL coaches have an average tenure of less than 2 seasons, so it's a given that Green has won more games. He has also lost more games than most of the NFL coaches "Genius" Clancy you must be the radio host with AM fan man or possibly the next assisant coach to be the fall guy for Denny's tirade. By the way; how do you arrive at being part of a family you guys are supposed to be pro's and get paid handsomely to do a job and when you don't perform up to even "par" you want us to think of you as family & cuddle you. How about 3 losing seasons with no sign of improvement even though there's a wealth of talent. Clancy if you indeed are an assistant your probably blowing your chance of being named interim coach within a few weeks.
PLEASE explain the brilliant timeout in the KC game that left Leinart with no T.O's on the final drive.
I just read this thread and would like to add my two cents. After reading the response to Carmen Cercone by Clancy P, I was struck by something. I am a TRUE FAN. I don't wait to see who to blame for our woes. I don't say, "hey, we're losing" without looking at what we've done. We also have only one win so far. I love my team. They are like a family to me because they make me proud, feel sad, angry, and confused. That's what makes a family who they are. Are a lot of the staff just working for a check? Could be. That's why we all work. But I can't get excited about my dentist or my auto mechanic no more than they can about me fixing their plumbing. Sports is all about emotion, but loyalty to team is what makes sports great. If you only supported anything or anyone who was only succesfull, then what does that say about you? I love my Packers because of what they stand for. I love my Packers because they are "mine". I played ball in high school and the coaches that I loved are the ones with passion and anger and fire. That is why Denny Green is still in the NFL. I hated him when he was with the Vikings because he would routinely beat us. It sounds like Arizona fans are asking for his head. If he can get us to play against a team like the Bears the way they did, then I, like a lot of callers on talk radio were saying, "I'll take him here". Yes, so they lost because the Bears defense played like men possesed in the last 5 minutes. I've been there countless times. I have been a fan since 1974 and I'll never look back. That says something about me and my character and I feel good about that because I am a TRUE FAN!
Sincerely, Cheeshead for life!
As a Bears Fan who watched the impossible happen on Monday night, Cardinal fans take heart, you were beaten by a team that has a real shot at winning it all once or twice every 15-20 years.. Dennis Green had us on the ropes,as usual, and he gave Bears fans fits when he coached the Minnesota Vikings. You have the workings and talent to raise the team to the next level, but whining and bad mouthing the Head Coach isn't going to help. Dennis Green is a pure professional, and he is on the right track. Don't forget Bears fans have had MANY seasons like the current one that the Cardinals are experiencing now.
Maybe there should be a rule that you have to be able to write an intelligent thought before being allowed to post. It's not kissing up if the truth is being told. Denny didn't run a play or call the plays - that's why they have players and coordinators. The OC should have been fired b/c he failed to understand how to use his players. James was saying what any starting running back would say - give me the ball! The Monday Night Meltdown was disappointing for a lot of people who have absolutely no connection to the Cardinals. I must admit, I still want to refer to them as the St. Louis Cardinals!
All I know is THE BEARS ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!!!!
First of all. I think the Cards played great. They should have scored at least 2 more TDs then they did and they faded in the 4th quarter as has been their MO but they played great for 3 3/4 quarters. They have the talent but it takes time to mesh. Had Fitzgerald been on the field there is no way they lose the last 2 games. The horses are there and the attitude is starting to come. All along i thought they were much better than their record. It won't be long before they are winners for multiple seasons. We waited along time in the Windy city. Denny knows how to win and with the best talent he has ever had he can't help but win big soon. Be patient and positive.
Dennis Green defines mediocrity. I guarantee that your team will not win the Super Bowl with him at the helm. He's been head coaching for over twelve years and has a total of 4 playoff wins. That is pathetic! Wake up Cardinal fans.
Dennis Green the coach who should have retired long ago hires and fires people to cover up his own lack of knowledge, leadership, and abilities. He gets rid of great football players that go to other teams and become all pro because he does not like them personally. The owners of the Cardinals made a big mistake by hiring him and are making a bigger mistake by not getting rid of him. I use to go to a lot of the Cardinal games but I quit going when they hired Green and I wont waste my time going to another Cardinal game until they get rid of Green. Wake up Arizona we need a real coach.
Boy, how many tims have the Bears been on the receiving end of a game like that one? Leading by 16 or so points, good offense production, no glaring mistakes going into the 4th quarter... and then, Kablooey! Fumbles, sacks, picks, reversed calls, blown tackles, and that shanked field goal or underthrown cross pattern that puts the final nail in the coffin. 3 or 4-point loss. Heads down, head coaches cursing down the tunnel. Dennis Green looked a lot like Mike Ditka on the podium Sunday night. His team played a good game and got beat even though the "better" team did not play nearly up to it's ability until the very end when the Bears defense made some things happen, and special teams sucked the air out from under the dome.
Football happens.
Seems to me that Dennis Green is taking the easy way out. I am surprised the league has done nothing about his lack of professionalism following the game Monday. Getting rid of the offensive coordinator is just as much an inditement against himself as well. He is the head coach afterall and if he did not agree with the play calling he should have done something about it!
This is Ron and I'm laughing while I write this response to another Ron. Ron Kenwisher says that he quit going to Cardinals games because we now have Dennis Green as a head coach. LOL. Because we were such winners without him, weren't we Ron. LOL. I've been going to Cardinals Games and have been a season ticket holder since the second year they played at Sun Devil. Fake, whinner fans like you are a joke. Stay out of OUR HOUSE because fair weather fans are like backstabbing friends, no one with any integrity wants them or needs them. The stadium is sold out for every game and that is not going to change. Sorry Ron. LOL. Having grown up surrounded by politics, I understand how some weak people can be very fickle. That's why I want to say to the Packers fan who wrote earlier, "well said, you should be proud of who you are and of your character". Ditto to the Bears fan. And a well done to your team. That was the best show of heart and determination I've seen since my last tour of duty in '68. By the way, does anyone else see the irony in Ron's comment about not going to any more of our games because he doesn't like Denny Green's personality and m.o.? LOL.
Wake up Arizona, we need real fans!!
Wake up Arizona, you need a real Coach! We finally found out that Denny was a loser, a cry-baby and a fraud and dumped him from Minnesota. You just had the bad luck to pick up slag from the heap instead of leaving him to go the way of all other non-hall of fame coaches, retirement.
I've never been moved emotionally to want to buy anything in my life. After reading these entries, I am going to call the Cardinal offices and get on the waiting list for season tickets. I'm being very sincere when I say this. I was one of those, "kick the bum out of town" folks until I read this. I was let down. I was elevated with joy until the downward spiral of the game came to it's ultimate end. I was heartbroken and I wanted to see Denny Green and the entire staff get out of town. I had a 'knee jerk' reaction and until I read this, didn't even realize that I was being a 'jerk'. A hearfelt sorry to all of my friends and my fellow Cardinals fans. Those of you who might read this and know who I am, you know how angry I was. Well, I will support "our" team and "our" coach as long as we have a team. Thank you to the Cheeshead and thank you to the Bears Fan. Oh yes, I know of you Ron Goldwater, it's too bad that you never got into politics, you sound like a wise man. Well said fellow Arizona'n...well said.
I agree with Bears Fan. I love the Bears and have so since my senior year in high school, 1985. Ok, so I was a fan because we had a terrific year. I loved the characters that made up the team. I even loved the music video. I loved them because I felt like a winner right along with them. Well, that feeling didn't last. Stick to your team. It's one big circle and you Cardinal's fans will have your day. Here's praying that our Bears keep it up. Don't worry, I will love you even if you don't. I too am real fan!!
As a sport fan I can respect a good point of view even if it makes my team look bad. But why all the anger in these posts? It seems in the same mean spirit that people call into the Jim Rome Show with. Why are all the people writing into these things so angry. This is a game we're talking about. And it's not really that important to make it personal and degrogatory attacts. Anger and personal bitterness is unnecessary but we see fans and sports hosts doing it. Can you imagine your children acting this way? Really does it seem that important to personally insult someone. Do you really feel that angry as to do that? Do you really feel that other people deserve that sort of treatment? How have you been treated that makes you want to insult other people. Sports is meant to be a fierce competition. Played on the field. Not a war of words. There are far more pressing issues to be consumed with. If people cared as much for their community as their football or basketball team I think we'd have a better place to live.
Hey Jake from Minnesota...switch to decaf. How many times did Denny take your team to the playoffs?? How's your team doing now?? So Denny was a fraud huh? Gee, was he around when your team commited the Sex Boat crimes...lol. Was he the brain trust who scalped his Super Bowl tickets...lol. I'm no Viking or Cardinal fan, but silly is just plain silly. I've heard all the old stuff about your old coach and all the things he's been accused of because I'm a talk radio addict, but no one credible, including Jim Rome ever says that he's not one of the great football minds in the league. Did you hear what Bill Cowher and Joe Gibbs said after the loss. Denny Green is a "brilliant" coach and they feel for his loss (Monday night). Gee, I guess they are frauds and losers too. LOL. Lovie Smith, our 13th head coach by the way, said that "I knew going in... not to buy the hype about playing Arizona...I knew Denny would be ready to play". I guess our coach is fraud too. LOL. Oh yes, get some anger management classes in your life...really, it's good advice from a mom of 3 boys :-).
