Remember that guy pictured to your right? He was clean shaven when he came to the Redskins, and vowed that he wouldn't shave until he played a significant role in the Redskins offense. Look at him now.Once upon a time, Duckett was a productive running back with the Atlanta Falcons. He is now a water boy for the Washington Redskins, dutifully tending to the needs of Clinton Portis, Ladell Betts, and other people who spend time on the playing field on Sundays for the Washington Redskins.
There are six Washington Redskins who have as many or more carries than Duckett. Two of them are the numbers one and two running backs, Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts. Then there's the little-known but wonderfully named Rock Cartwright. Mark Brunell's in there, too. And then a couple of receivers, Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle-El.
The Redskins traded an undisclosed draft pick for Duckett after Clinton Portis injured his shoulder in the preseason. Since then, Ladell Betts carried the load in the absence of Portis for a week or two, and it's been Portis (with a little bit of Betts still mixed in) since then. Duckett has never factored into the equation for them, not even as much as Rock Cartwright, who contributes on special teams, too.
Is it safe to look at this one in the rearview mirror and call it a panic move? Duckett was on the block, Portis was injured, they looked around, and they made the move without considering that their running back needs could've been addressed in house. I don't know what kind of a draft pick Atlanta's getting, but even a 7th rounder is way too much to give for 24 yards of total offense.

On the plus side... he should be ready to jump right in when one of the ZZ Top guys dies. He even has the right name for it.
He'll produce when they need him. Way to early to call this trade a bust - he hasn't had the opportunity. And for TJ, granted he'd prefer to be on the field, but at 25 he's really hasn't endured the grind that most running backs do, and makes the age of 30 the end of the career. Duckett could have 10 more productive years.
This was a 3 team trade, Denver gets Washington's picks with 4 possible scenarios. Denver and Washington just swap 1st round picks in 2007. They swap 1st round picks AND Denver gets a 3rd rounder in 2007. They swap 1st round picks and Denver gets a 4th round pick in 2008; or they swap 1st round picks AND Denver gets both a 3rd rounder in 2007 and a 4th round pick in 2008. Real good trade for the Skins???
