On Sunday, the Titans retired hall of famer Warren Moon's number 1 jersey, and inducted him into their Hall of Fame. To read a sunshine and lollipops view of this event, check out the Titan Fanhouse.
I'm sorry, but the idea of former Oilers being honored in front of mostly people who never rooted for them is just sort of vomity to me. It's odd to have a Titan Hall of Fame that includes Elvin Bethea, a Oiler player that most of the Titans fanbase wouldn't know one lick about.
It's beyond suck that Bud Adams stole Houston's team, but he added insult to injury by stealing its heritage too. Great, a bunch of Titans fans got to honor someone they never rooted for: "Woohoo, no bathroom line!"
The AP story of the event contains this beauty quote of Bud Adams:
"He spoiled us, I tell you. We won many games because of Warren Moon. The biggest mistake I made was trading him after 10 years."
Oh really, are you sure that's your biggest mistake? How about the way that you kicked Steve McNair to the curb? The only quarterback that has ever taken your team to the Super Bowl, and you wouldn't have contract talks with him, you had an underling lock him out of the training facility in the offseason, and then you took your sweet time before you allowed him to go to a team who actually valued him. I guess the Ravens feel pretty good about your non-mistake with McNair.
Actually I can think of tons of Bud Adams mistakes, as my regard for that man is a little less than Brown fans' regard for Art Modell.
And, by the way, Earl isn't a Titan either.
(Sorry, just a minor bye week rant, move along now).

Well, as a former Oiler season ticket holder for many years, I dislike Bud Adams very much. But having said that where would all these former Oiler greats go in regards to the team's HOF or whatever? They are kinda in "no man's land". Other than the Texas Hall of Fame there is no Houston Oiler Hall of Fame. There is a "Luv Ya Blue" group that meets a couple of times in Houston each year and many of the former players still attend. Bud, as much as I hate to admit it was the original owner of the Oilers and now Titans. Team records are considered by merging both locations so although it does seem awkward I have no problem with recognizing players for that franchise with either team. They were my team even after moving to Tennessee (Went to a game in New Orleans when Ditka was the coach) until McNair brought the Texans and I bought my PSL's the very minute they became available. From that day on they became nothing but a division rival. Bud's biggest mistakes by far were trading Pastorini and firing Bum Phillips.

Once the Oilers left Houston, they were dead to me.
I put up with Bud's crapatola because the Oilers were my hometown team. Once they were gone, they were gone, and I couldn't really enjoy the NFL at all during those bad years, other than wishing for the Titans to be a yard short in all of their endeavors.
It is nice to be able to root for Steve McNair again without guilt. It really burned me that Bud took Steve and Eddie away, players that should have been on MY team, and I always kinda sorta rooted for the ex-Oilers and Jeff Fisher, but I wanted them to do individually well but for the team to fail. You know, to have a Barry Sanders kinda career.
Cowboy fans annoy me because annoyance is the meaning and purpose of most of their lives, but I have mostly pity for Titans fans because they have to deal with Bud's BS.

The Houston Oilers should have their own heritage and the Tennessee Titans should have a seperate heritage.
Never the twain should meet.
I'm guessing that Warren Moon might have given some thought to declining the honor and could have said, "Look, go ahead and give a Titan player my old number if you want. That guy will never be an Oiler, so it's not the same thing."
I'll bet Moon felt very odd accepting the honor in Nashville.
Another thing: Instead of honoring Moon at the DALLAS game, the ceremony could have waited until HOUSTON came to town. Or if he really wanted to be classy, Bud could have asked Bob McNair if he could honor Moon during the halftime of the Titans game at Reliant Stadium.
On the other hand, maybe he did and McNair said "no." For all of his mistakes, Bud looks pretty good these days when compared to McNair.

Actually, I think they held the ceremony that particular weekend because Warren could get away from his Seahawks broadcasting job that day. That being said, they have honored other Oilers before, and only in TN.
How does Adams look good comparison to McNair? The Titans look to be in as much chaos as just about any team in the league, and McNair is basically doing what most smart fans want any owner to do--let the football people run the football side of the business.

So, Stephanie, do you know for a fact that Bud Adams did NOT ask Bob McNair if he could honor Warren Moon and other former Oilers at Titans games in Reliant Stadium?
I'm sure there is someone you know in the Texans organization you could call to find out for sure.
If Bud has not yet asked to do this, please see if Bob would be receptive to such a request.
Come to think about it, why couldn't McNair invite legendary Oilers to be honored for a Houston NFL Hall of Fame? I'm certain they would all be pleased to receive recognition here, rather than a foreign city like Nashville.

I wanna say that I heard that the timing of the ceremony on the radio. It was a matter of fitting it into Moon's schedule.
The Texans do honor Houston based athletes at their "Homecoming Day" game. I don't know which game it is this year. In a previous year, I got a Ray Childress autograph.

If Houston is so hell bent on keeping it's heritage then why would the Texans pass on the hometown Houston boy, Vince Young? We are happy to have the team here whether they are the Houston Oilers or the Tennessee Titans. Players, coaches and owners are all in it for the money. Houston did not want Bud Adams or the team so they left. It's not personal, it's business. The Titans would have loved to have had Steve McNair, but not for 25 million dollars. He thought he could make more money elsewhere so he went to Baltimore. Funny how he and Steve have both kept there homes in Nashville. If they had felt so loved in Houston don't you think they would have kept there home in Houston? I think they know they are appreciated here. Don't forget the Tennessee did not have a team before the Titnas so do not assume that there are not fans here that rooted and supported Warren Moon. Just because he never wore a Titans jersey does not mean that he was not respected here.
As far as chaos in the Titan's organization we might have it, but I do not know of an organization that doesn't. The fact that we sell out every game regardless if our team is winning or losing lets me know that the organization is doing something right. We are enjoying a winning season after a couple of really bad seasons. I hope of the sour grapes go away once the Houston Texans start a winning trend. You have a good team and your time will come. I just wish all of the bad feelings could be put to rest. Maybe when Bud dies things will be better. We are in the same conference and it will always be a good rivalry.
