Michael Irvin has said, "Raider fans like to paint their faces and pretend to be crazy; Eagles fans really are crazy." I don't think I'm going to argue with him either.A piece in Sunday's New York Times talks of the hostility, and sadly, violence Eagles' fans showed towards a number of Giants fans in the Birds collapse to the G-men in week two at the Linc in South Philly.
The Times tells of two Giants fans who were "taunted, cursed and even spit at during the game by Eagles fans."
After the game things escalated to a sad state of fandom:
The abuse only escalated as the group filed out after the Giants rallied for an overtime victory against the Eagles, the Giants fans said. Scalise, 21, of Copiague, N.Y., said he was pushed from behind several times on a stadium ramp. When Scalise turned around, he said, a man about 6 feet tall and 230 pounds, wearing an Eagles T-shirt and cap, punched him in the nose.I think most Philadelphia Eagles fans take a little bit of pride in our stadium being a tough place to play, but I hope most decent fans can all agree that fans resorting to violence is rather pathetic. You're probably taking things a bit far when opposing fans are "seriously considering having two armed guards sit with us next year.""We were holding the guy and calling for security," said Robert Anderson, a retired New York City police detective who was part of the group. "But other Eagles fan came down the ramp and started swinging at us. When we went to protect ourselves, the guy who threw the first punch got away."
I think Philadelphia often gets a bad reputation and other cities continually point towards the Santa garbage, the fact that the Vet had a court in it, and a number of previous incidents. While sometimes Philly's bad reputation is unwarranted, this particular incident certainly isn't helping with Philly sports fans' image.

Unfortunately, this type of behavior is not limited to just Philadelphia Eagles fans. I have been to both a Phillies and a Sixers game where the same pattern of of verbal and physical abuse also occurs. It is not just limited to the football team.

All Eagles fans are pathetic losers.....those who can't realize that football is only a game to be enjoyed and resort to inappropriate behavior and those who stand by and do nothing about it.

I think this very article and incident proves decisively that the reputation IS warrented.

I wonder why that is? The Santa "garbage." So the Santa incident wasn't much of anything was it? You (the author) are as distasteful as the rest of Philly fans.

I was at an Eagles game last year vs. the Packers. My husband & I are Packer fans and it's hard to get to Green Bay to see a game, where as Philly is a mere hour away. Needless to say, these people were ruthless. I got pushed around and had many things said to me hich caused my husband to almost get into many fights that day. To top it off, I was pregnant at the time and it didn't even matter. We will go again this year, but I am not pregnant and able to defend myself so I'm ready for those a$$holes this time. Real tough guys, pushing around a pregnant woman because she has a Packers jersey on. Gimme a break... LOSERS!!

I lived in the Philadelphia area for most of my life before moving to Florida 5 years ago. I am still a die hard Philadelphia fan for all sports, and I realize the REAL fans are taking a hit for a bunch of morons that call themselves fans. They probably go home and kick there dog too. Or maybe it's sleep with the dog and kick the wife? We've had so many losers in Philly that we also attract losers for fans!

Removed from the area and now living in Seminole FL, I was proud to read "Use guys" are continuing the tradition of letting the opposing fans know what is considered suitable attire while attending an "IGGLES" Game.
Considering the Media always makes mention of our PASSION, those stinking New Yorkers should know better!

I have lived in many cities all over the country and nowhere else have I witnessed the kind of city pride as the people of philadelphia. Athough I do not agree with resorting to violence over a football game, I have been to a number of eagles games in south philly throughout my lifetime and never have seen an eagles fan instigating a fight. If you walk up to a drunk eagles fan with a cowboys jersey on and say something like "our team going to kick your ass" you're just asking to get your own ass kicked. that's just the way philly is, if you don't like it...don't go to our stadium.

I couldn't agree more with the article. The fans ARE crazy. Sad thing is you don't even need to wear an opposing team's jersey to have similar incidents happen to you. I'm from South Jersey, USED to be an Eagles fan and cancelled my 100 level season tickets after a ridiculous situation last year. My fiance was being harassed WHILE WEARING HER JEVON KEARSE jersey by a couple of guys behind us. Me, 6'4" 240, decided to be a gentleman about it and asked security to address the situation... which they DIDN'T. At halftime, the 3 "gentlemen" (BLITZED out of their minds, by the way) decided it would be fun to wait for my fiance at the exit of the ladies room and harass her up close and personal (touching and grabbing her). Thank God I was waiting for her close by and was able to intervene before she was assaulted. That's when one of the "gentlemen" decided to take a swing at me. Luckily drunk people tend to have agility problems. Long story short, an altercation ensued, two of the "gentlemen" ran away before security showed up and security wanted NOOOO PART in doing ANYTHING about prosecuting the remaining "gentleman". I was actually told I was lucky I wasn't being arrested basically because I was capable of defending myself. End result. The Eagles organization did NOTHING to ensure an incident like this wouldn't happen again. Saddest thing is that I've heard too many stories concerning "fans" harassing and assaulting others and every story ends just like mine. Lincoln Financial Field and The Eagles organization does everything it can to wash its hands of these situations and make it as difficult as possible for the victims to seek justice.

I'm from Philadelphia. I don't understand why so many ass holes live in Philly. Why do we have to treat visitors like such ass holes? Why???
We are one step away from being European soccer hooligans.
If you want to watch your team play in Philadelphia, stay at home and watch it on TV. I'm not kidding. You have to be crazy to come to Philly to rout for your team.
We wounder why the muslims want to kill us overseas. We want to kill our own countrymen because of a stupid football game here in Philadelphia, the city of Brotherly love. BS.

Ah, the Eagles fans. 46 years and they have never had a celebration because they've won NOTHING and never will. Meanwhile every other team in the NFC East has won AT LEAST two superbowls each. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of morons, the single digit IQ Iggles fans!

Philadelphia fans are in general, a bunch losers like their sports teams. They give new dimensions to the term SORE LOSERS. They reflect the culture and tastes of Philadelphia admorably. Every year, their subpar teams feel the sting of defeat. And how do they respond? By physically assaulting the fans of the victorious team in a drunken mob. Brilliant! Personally, I'd love to see another city, (Dallas comes to mind), bring a group of Scottish Soccer Hooligans in for protection, and to give those lousy Philly (perpetual losers)Fans a beat down they will never forget. They have it coming, beleive me! 23 years without a championship in any sport! You think they would get use to it. LOSERS!!!! Hahahaha

You know it's sad when you can't go to the opposing teams stadium to watch a simple football game! Banning alcohol would at least minimize the problem. But,as long as they have a**holes in this world,it will never end.
