Trainer: Owens Had Issues with Son, Fiancee

Text Size A A A
OK, time for another Terrell Owens update. On the one hand, Owens' longtime trainer, James "Buddy" Primm, describes the report of a suicide attempt as "erroneous." But on the other hand, Primm proceeds to tell us two major reasons that Owens has been miserable:

1. Owens' son's seventh birthday was Monday. Owens wanted to see his son, but the two were unable to get together, because Owens lives in Dallas and his son lives in California.

2. Owens' fiancee ended their relationship this week.

Did Owens try to kill himself because he was so depressed about those two facts? Or did publicist Kim Etheredge, knowing those facts, assume he was trying to kill himself and tell the police that? Or did the police misunderstand Etheredge? Or did the police make the whole thing up? I have no idea. Owens knows the truth, and if the truth is that he tried to kill himself, he's had a remarkable recovery and is a better liar than he is a football player. If I had to guess I'd go with the second option: Etheredge misunderstood the situation, overreacted in talking to the police, and is now trying to cover herself.

Let's hope Etheredge's 911 call becomes public and sheds a little light on this. After all, if Etheredge is telling the truth, the emergency response system in Dallas is seriously screwed up, and the taxpayers of Dallas have a right to know that.
