Well, we got a glimpse of him in week one and sorely missed him last week. But it now looks like Clinton Portis is ready to go.
After a seriously flawed offense in week one got worse in week two, the return of Portis brings some relief. Of course, he isn't the QB, nor does he play defense, but as long as he does what he does best, the offense should run smoother and the defense should get more than four or five plays off before they head back to the field.
Without Portis the Vikings and Cowboys were able to keep an extra set of eyes on Santana Moss while bringing some heat. With Moss buried behind opposing jerseys and Mark Brunell not having the time to look for Brandon Lloyd, Antwaan Randle El or Chris Cooley (or anyone for that matter), I'm wishing the preseason was six games long.
With Portis lining up in the backfield, defenses are going to have to cheat up to the line if they don't want him dancing in the end zone. And as soon as they come out of cover two coverage and rolling extra help to Moss, maybe, just maybe Mark Brunell will have more options than sideline, turf and the other team.

You're putting way to much stock in Portis. I love the guy (I even wear his jersey on Sundays), but Betts or Duckett could be a starting RB on a lot of teams in this league, and the offense was pathetic with them in there.
It's a big stretch to think Portis' return is going to free up the WRs or give Brunell's pathetic ass any extra time to find them.

The Redskins have an overated offensive line that is having a difficult time with pass protection. Couple that with a lack of intensity on the defensive line and you have the results posted. Championships are won along the line of play.

Portis may not come in and suddenly Brunell looks like Peyton Manning, but with Portis in there, maybe we get a few more first downs, a big play or two or something that will keep us within a shorter FG for John Hall. Portis' presence isn't going to cause us to blow anyone out, but if his presence means just enough production to balance out Brunell's lack of production, perhaps we enter the 4th quarter leading and use Duckett and Betts to wear out defenses who are already tired from chasing Portis all day.
The d-line definitely looks like it needs some help. Andre Carter? I'll take Mario Williams right about now. But I still feel it has a little to do with opponents always ahead in the game and wearing out the line with one smashmouth play after another. And they stay on the field for extended periods of times. Portis presence may help our offense stay on the field for more than five plays at a time and give the d-line enough time to recuperate and look over some snapshots of the opponents offense and give gregg williams some time to strategize while Portis is wearing out their defense.
Wishful thinking, perhaps, but it's obvious why we won at the end of last season when Brunell was stinking up the place. Clinton Portis.
