Counterpoint: As Unattractive an Option as it May Be, You Gotta Stick With Jake

Jay Cutler Vanderbilt

Jake Plummer opened the 2005 season against Miami with a 51.6 quarterback rating. The next week wasn't much better, when he posted a 70.6 rating, while getting sacked three times, throwing no touchdowns, and one interception.

And then the next week, he destroyed Kansas City with a 116.0 rating, and in week four, he buried Jacksonville with a 110.4 rating.

Inconsistency is his trademark. This is what Jake Plummer does. He will have good games this year, they're just more likely to be the games where he throws the ball less than 20 times.

I know Jay Cutler looked good in the preseason, but you know ... so did Chris Simms. Rookie quarterbacks who can win a lot of games don't come along every day, and unless you're willing to roll the dice and bet on the (very) longshot that Jay Cutler will be as good as Ben Roethlisberger in his rookie year, you've just got to ride it out with Jake.

Denver's a team that was expecting to be in the Super Bowl this year. Inserting a rookie quarterback right now would be a little bit of a panic move. It would be about the same thing as giving up on the Super Bowl all together? How often is a rookie quarterback going to get a team to the Super Bowl?

Jake still gives them the best chance to get there. Denver fans just are just going to have to live with a few performances like this per year.
